PERCENTILE (not the mean): highlights should sit just below clipping so the
subject reads bright without blowing out. Mean-chasing runs away on additive
/ bloom-heavy scenes (the faint haze keeps the mean low while the core
saturates), so a percentile target is far more robust across geometries.
