Write ONE knob onto the material — the shared path for construction AND the live Layers-panel sliders. Clamps by the table, assigns the three property, and requests a program rebuild when a programAffecting knob crosses zero (see PhysicalKnobSpec.programAffecting for why both twins need this here). transmission additionally re-derives the compositing decision, since glass is translucent by definition. Returns the value actually written.
